JESSICA HUDSON APPOINTED TO WARD 18 COUNCIL SEAT

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha City resident Jessica Hudson was appointed to fill Council Member Pam Burka’s Ward 18 City Council seat during tonight’s Charleston City Council meeting.  Hudson was nominated and approved to serve immediately.  

“Jessica brings more than 20 years of experience in finance, operations, and strategic leadership, along with a strong connection to Kanawha City and the people who call it home,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “I appreciate her willingness to serve and look forward to working with her on behalf of the residents of Ward 18.”  

A graduate of West Virginia State University, Hudson has spent more than 20 years in leadership roles focused on healthcare finance, operations, and strategy in both the private and public sectors. Her career has included helping grow a West Virginia healthcare organization from a startup into a statewide organization employing thousands of West Virginians, serving in state government with responsibilities supporting healthcare facilities and services across all 55 counties, and leading strategic initiatives focused on improving healthcare quality and outcomes. Hudson is currently transitioning into the role of Chief Financial Officer for the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, bringing her experience in finance and organizational leadership to the nonprofit sector. She also serves on the board of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. 

“Kanawha City has been home to my family for more than 20 years, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to a community that has given us so much,” said Council Member Jessica Hudson. “I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside my fellow Council members to serve Ward 18 and the City of Charleston.” 

Hudson and her husband have called Kanawha City home since 2003, where they raised their two children, Chase and Ava. Their family has deep roots in the neighborhood through recreational sports, summers at the Greenbrier pool, their church, and other community activities.
