MAYOR GOODWIN ANNOUNCES CITY DEPARTMENTS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR MAYOR’S SUMMER YOUTH JOBS PROGRAM

(Charleston, W. Va.) – Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin today announced the City of Charleston is accepting applications for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs Program (MSYJP). Positions are available through Community Services (Events), Charleston Fire Department, Human Resources, Parking Operations, Parks & Recreation, Public Art, Public Grounds, Spring Hill Cemetery, and Traffic Operations.

“We’re excited to, again, offer our youth valuable job opportunities that not only allow them to contribute to our community but also gain hands-on experience that will help them build practical skills that will support their future growth,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “The Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs Program empowers our young people to explore their interests, develop leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, and grow both professionally and personally – all while making a positive impact on our community.”

Participants in the Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs Program must be ages 16-20 at time of application and for the duration of their participation in the program.  Participants may work up to 35 hours per week; however, some positions may require varying shift hours based on the specific needs of the role.  The MSYJP will run from June 2 – August 8, 2025. Employment dates may be extended based on participant availability and department needs. Applications and position descriptions are available on the city’s website.  All MSYJP job postings include “Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs Program” in the job title. Youth who are interested in multiple positions must apply for all positions individually.

Seasonal jobs are also available through the Parks and Recreation Department – including openings for certified lifeguards. Applications and position descriptions are available on the city’s website.

Youth needing assistance with completing an application can call Parks and Recreation at 304.348.6860 or stop by one of the community centers during regular operating hours. For a list of facilities and hours, visit the Parks and Recreation Department page.
