MAYOR GOODWIN TO HOST OFFICIAL CITY TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY ON NOVEMBER 28 AT 6:30 P.M. DURING HOLLY JOLLY BRAWLEY

(Charleston, W. Va.) – Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin will kick off the holiday season with Charleston’s official City Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Center at Slack Plaza on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.  The tree lighting is part of the fifth annual Holly Jolly Brawley celebration, a two-day holiday event that transforms downtown Charleston into a winter wonderland featuring more than 160 trees.

ROAD CLOSURES 

The following street closures will be in place for Holly Jolly Brawley, beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26 and extending through Monday, December 1 at 8 a.m.     

  • Capitol St, Quarrier St to Lee St

  • Summers St, Parking Garage exit to Lee St  

  • Laidley St, Quarrier St to Lee St 

  • Lee Way (at the triangle)  

*Some roads may re-open before Monday morning.   

PARKING INFORMATION 

  • The Summers St Parking Garage will be accessible via Quarrier Street only, beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26 through Monday, December 1 at 8 a.m.   

  • Parking in city-owned garages is free November 26 at 5 p.m. – November 30.   

  • Parking at all city-owned meters is free Thursday, November 27 – Sunday, November 30. 

  • General information regarding parking can be viewed on the City’s website. 

DRONE SHOW PEDESTRIAN AND TRAFFIC INFORMATION 

To ensure the safety of all participants before, during and after the drone show on Saturday, November 29, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be prohibited within the designated “safety zone” outlined in orange in graphic to right from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.  

In addition, Quarrier St, from Summers St to Court St, and Laidley St, from Lee St to Virginia St will be closed to traffic and pedestrians. 

  CAPITAL CITY SIP-N-STROLL (PODA)  Pursuant to Bill No. 8055, PODA districts in the City of Charleston will operate:  

  • 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, November 27 

  • 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29  

FREE HOLLY JOLLY BRAWLEY TROLLY SERVICE  KRT will provide FREE Holly Jolly Brawley Trolley service every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from Friday, November 28 through Sunday, December 28—from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.   The trolley will run approximately every 15 minutes with stops at: 

  • City Center (except during Holly Jolly Brawley) 

  • Lee St Triangle 

  • GoMart Ballpark (Morris St) 

  • Capitol Market (Soho’s)

TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF KRT CITY CENTER STATION  To accommodate the Holly Jolly Brawley zipline (Wednesday, November 26 through Saturday, November 29), KRT City Center Station will temporarily relocate to:  

  • Donnally St (between Laidley St and Summers St)  

  • Summers St (between Donnally St and Washington St)
