MAYOR GOODWIN ANNOUNCES THE CITY IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR HEARTS OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECTS

(Charleston, W. Va.) – Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin today announced the City of Charleston is accepting applications for Hearts of our Neighborhood, a city-wide initiative aimed at supporting neighborhood projects that will revitalize and celebrate the spaces that serve as vital gathering hubs for recreation, education, resources, and more while encouraging local partnerships.

“The projects this program supports are synonymous with the Hearts of Our Neighborhood—places where people gather, connect, and build community,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “We invite applicants to submit project ideas that will enhance our public spaces and fulfill a current community need, strengthening our shared spaces, and create lasting benefits for residents throughout our Capital City.”

Mayor Godwin first announced the Hearts of Our Neighborhood program during her 2025 State of the City address, highlighting the importance of celebrating the great ideas of community members and bringing to life their vision for what they want to see in their neighborhoods.

The Hearts of Our Neighborhood application and a comprehensive breakdown of the initiative – including the project narrative, submission checklist, deadlines, applicant and project eligibility, and project examples – are available at www.charlestonwv.gov/heartsofourneighborhood. The first round of applications is due June 15 at 5 p.m.
