Mayor Goodwin Attends Municipal League Conference

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin joined mayors, city managers and councilmembers from across the Mountain State today for the 2022 West Virginia Municipal League (WVML) Winter Conference being held in Charleston.

“Municipal leaders from across West Virginia—representing the 230 municipal governments—are in Charleston to listen and learn from one another, share ideas, and work on ways to collaborate on projects to benefit all communities,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin.

The WVML Winter Conference takes place during the regular West Virginia Legislative session to allow members to meet with their local state delegation.

“This winter conference is our opportunity to connect our city leaders with our state representatives and have one on one conversations about what is important in our cities—what issues are directly impacting our residents,” said Chris Tatum, President of the West Virginia Municipal League and the Mayor of the Village of Barboursville.

City leaders were presented a draft report on the state of municipal finances in West Virginia from Dr. John Deskins West Virginia University’s Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research, and Dr. Christopher Plein, a professor from the West Virginia University School of Public Administration.

Breakout sessions during the conference included municipal taxation, American Rescue Plan rules and reporting updates, and best practices in municipal government management.
