FREE COMPOST AVAILABLE FOR PICK-UP BEGINNING OCTOBER 31

(Charleston, W. Va.) – Free compost will be available for pick-up at the City of Charleston’s compost facility on Hanna Drive (see directions below) Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., excluding holidays, starting on October 31 through March 31.

Individuals and businesses planning to pick-up compost are encouraged to call 304.348.6458 in advance of their trip to ensure an operator will be available to help load the compost. There is no limit to the amount of compost individuals and businesses can pick up, but they must use their own truck and/or trailer.  

Directions

From Huntington (via I-64E):

  • Take exit 53 to WV-25 E/10th St (Dunbar).
  • Turn left onto WV-25 E/10th St. Travel 433 ft.
  • Turn left onto WV-25 E/Dunbar Ave. Travel for 3.6 mi (Dunbar Ave changes to 7th Ave).
  • Turn left onto 26th St W. Travel 289 ft.
  • Turn right onto Washington St W. Travel 0.1 mi.
  • Turn left onto Hanna Dr. Travel 0.5 mi.
  • Turn right immediately after church. There is a "Compost" sign on the utility pole at this intersection. Travel 0.7 mi to the top of the hill.

From the North (Via I-77/79 S):

  • Take exit 101 for I-64 W. Travel 0.2 mi.
  • Keep right to continue on Exit 58C. Follow signs for US-60/Washington St/Civic Center. Merge onto US-119 S/Bigley Ave. Travel 0.4 mi.
  • Continue straight onto Bigley Ave. Travel 0.2 mi.
  • Turn right onto Washington St W. Travel 1.7 mi.
  • Continue straight to stay on Washington St W at Sissonville Dr/WV-25 intersection. Travel 0.5 mi.
  • Turn right onto Hanna Dr. Travel 0.5 mi.
  • Turn right immediately after church. There is a "Compost" sign on the utility pole at this intersection. Travel 0.7 mi to the top of the hill.
