City of Charleston, Charleston Area Alliance Gives Update on Charleston Roots Relocation Incentive Program

The City of Charleston and Charleston Area Alliance (CAA) have received over 60 applications for its Charleston Roots Initiative since being announced on Wednesday, April 21. Applicants have applied from 18 different states and either work or are looking for work in several areas including technology, medical and public sector work.

“The response that we’ve seen from folks across the nation that want to move to our Capital City has been overwhelming,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “These folks represent highly skilled individuals that are looking to plant roots and give back to our community.”

“Seeing the vast number of applications that we received in such a short amount of time shows that people do want to plant their roots in West Virginia, and specifically Charleston,” said Jordan Ferrell, Vice President of Communications and Development for the Charleston Area Alliance. “We look forward to meeting these folks and working with them to make Charleston home.”

The selection committee, comprised of Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, Brady Campbell (Charleston City Council), Christy Elliott (CAA Board of Directors), Adam Krason (CAA Board of Directors), Jordan Ferrell (CAA) and Mackenzie Spencer (City of Charleston), have reviewed the first round of applications. Interviews with potential incentive recipients will begin next week.

The application process continues to be open and submissions are accepted at CharlestonRoots.com.
