ROD RUN & DOO WOP TRAFFIC CHANGES START WEDNESDAY

The Charleston Boulevard Rod Run & Doo Wop will fill Kanawha Boulevard with classic cars from Thursday through Sunday this weekend and bring thousands of visitors to Charleston for the annual event.  As a result of preparation for the event, traffic will be affected starting Wednesday at 6 p.m. along the Boulevard, and other traffic restrictions will occur Saturday afternoon and evening in conjunction with the Zambelli fireworks show that night.

Starting at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, October 3), Kanawha Boulevard will be closed at Leon Sullivan Way with one west-bound lane open for traffic to Capitol Street, where all traffic will be diverted.  One westbound lane will also remain open between Clendenin Street and Pennsylvania Avenue for access to restaurants and other businesses on that block.  The Boulevard will be closed at the other end of the car show by Magic Island at Ohio Avenue.  Some side streets will also be affected with restricted traffic and parking:  the unit block of Laidley Street with local traffic to and from the Four Points garage and the unit block of both Goshorn and Truslow, although traffic will be permitted from Virginia to and from the Spilman building driveway, halfway down the block.

On Saturday, one southbound lane of the South Side Bridge will be closed at 4 p.m. in preparation for the fireworks display because the bridge will be part of the fireworks show.  MacCorkle Avenue will be closed at 8 p.m. between Porter Road and U.S. Route 119.  Traffic will be permitted access to Thayer and Ferry Streets, up the ramp to Loudon Heights and Bridge Road until 9:15.  The South Side Bridge also will be fully closed to traffic at that time as well until after the post-fireworks safety check and cleanup is complete.
