PAYMENTS: Municipal Court Payments can now be made online here (please allow up to 10 business days for your citation to appear online payment) or in the Municipal Court Clerk’s Office (Room 103 in City Hall) Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 7pm, or mail to Charleston Municipal Court, PO BOX 2749, Charleston WV 25330. Methods of Payment Accepted: You may pay fines, court costs, and restitution online by credit or debit card here. To pay in person or by mail you may pay by certified check, cash, money order, or personal check. You may also pay in person by cash; please do not send cash by mail. Bond must be paid in cash. Any check returned for insufficient funds must be redeemed in cash and will be subject to a processing fee.
NOTICE: Court is typically held on Tuesday and Wednesday each week at 3:00 PM. Please see your citation, summons, or hearing notice for your court date. If you are unsure of your court date, you may search for it here or contact the Municipal Court Office.

Court Sessions begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday - Guests enter via CPD security scan. Court appearance dates are written at the bottom of the citation. If you are late, the doors may be locked and you will not be permitted entry. You will be marked "failure to appear", a capias may be issued in the discretion of the judge, and your license may be suspended. Please be prompt.
Municipal Court is located in the City Hall building on the corner of Virginia and Court Street. The entrance
is on Court Street side of the building and opens at 3:00 p.m. for court sessions. The Municipal Court Clerks? Office
entrance is through the front revolving doors on Virginia Street, first door on the left, room 103. Parking is
available in the Shanklin Parking Building next to City Hall on Virginia Street.

The docket is called at the beginning of each session. Witnesses are released from subpoena if the defendant is not present at roll call. Defendants not on the docket or arriving after roll call will need to report to the court clerk inside the courtroom, or the main office in Rm 103 of City Hall. For identification purposes, please bring your Driver's License or State issued Photo ID.
Court Appearance Date is found at the bottom on the front of the citation. Requests for continuance must be received by the court in writing 7 days in advance of the court date, and good cause must be described. If a continuance is granted by the judge, a notice is sent stating the new court date.
With regard to requesting continuances for court proceedings for the reason of:
Illness/ Injury
A doctor's excuse will be required to be presented with the written request for continuance (a faxed copy signed by doctor will be accepted). If the defendant is hospitalized, the defendant should request the hospital to fax documentation to the court; the defendant must provide an excuse to the court upon release or 3 days before his/her next court date.
Funeral:
A copy of an obituary, death certificate, or an excuse from the funeral home with the defendant's name must be provided of proof of attendance to a funeral. This documentation must be submitted with the written request for continuance (a faxed copy of the obituary will be accepted).
