The City of Charleston American Rescue Plan (ARP)

The recently enacted American Rescue Plan Act calls for the City of Charleston to receive $37.81 million in direct federal aid to assist our community in its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. At least 50% of these funds will be disbursed to the City by mid-May, followed by the remaining 50% in 12 months. The funds may be used for many broad purposes, including, but not limited to, addressing municipal revenue losses, building water & sewer projects, enhancing broadband infrastructure, contributions to the tourism & hospitality industry, contributions to small businesses, contributions to non-profits, and assistance to households. Importantly, all funds must be used by December 31, 2024.

In anticipation of our receipt of these funds, the City established the American Rescue Plan Act Advisory to propose a plan for spending the funds through a transparent allocation process.

The Advisory Committee is seeking citizen input for proposed uses of the funds.
